It produces a very musical note that is quite different from steel knockoffs. The design is accurate to the bell seen in Polar Express, except it's upside down (however every other Polar Express bell I've seen has been the same way). This is a #1 bell, approximately 1 inch across.

This is a great bell, with leather strap, in a nice hand wrapped package, and a candy cane striped lid. The bell sits on a nest of 'reindeer snow'. This particular bell is an ACTUAL sleigh bell, gleams, has good weight, brass, measuring 7/8 inch diameter. Kids young and old love these. (More customer reviews)This half-scale reproduction of "Dad's" famous "major award" isn't completely accurate (as has been noted here in another review) but for a mere 40 bucks, it's certainly close enough for most Christmas Story fans, including this one! The large-size version by NECA also suffers from the same (minor) inaccuracies, so their half-size version is certainly the better deal if you're hankering to own the classic leg lamp. Something to consider: It's smaller scale will fit nicely on the table between your home theatre recliners and will go well with any other home theatre decor. It certainly does with mine, never failing to draw smiling comments when a new guest first sees it. And your lamp will too. (And my home theatre room is full of other types of movie/tv memorbilia to distract the eye.) So stop vascilating and "award" this classic to yourself (or a loved one) for being a steadfast fan of one of the best holiday movies ever made. And remember: Be sure to ask the seller to mark the package "Fragile" so you too can become "Dad" for a nostalgic moment when it arrives at your door.

The leg lamp was just one of the classic bits in this movie. I am glad to see that they made it into a night light.
Not sure how much of a market is out there for this item. Kids won't "get" it, probably, and most adults won't need it. That is why I think it is a good gag gift.
This thing is a joy to behold. It is smaller than it looks on the picture.
Now if only I could figure out how to get it in the front window....

With one click the leg only lights up as a nightlight, the second click turns on only the lamp portion and the third turns on both the leg and the lamp (bulb). Also, the lamp requires a 40 watt appliance bulb.
It was shipped quickly and was received without any damage.
